Ancestry Chapter 6

1870-1879 - Tybus Children - Marriages and Military Service

(click documents to see details.)

Francisca Tybus' son Michael born 1870, Dirschau, West Prussia

Michael and Helena Tybus' next older sister, Francisca, and her husband Johann Lihrewbek, have a child named Michael on October 18, 1870.  Baby Michael L. is christened on October 19, 1870.  (There are a lot of Mike's in this story.)  Michael's godparents are Johann Ostroski and Anna Ostrowska.

Cannot for certain say Francisca is first Tybus child to marry because August Tybus would be 33 at this time, and could be married.  Like now, weddings normally take place at the bride's church and town.  I saw no Dirschau marriage for him, or Dirschau births.

Francisca is only 18, which is an unusually young age for marriage and motherhood in this culture.  But Francisca and Johann are listed in the birth record as married.  The birth would have been marked illegitimate if it was, even if the father was named.  Francisca and Johann did not go on to have lots of children.  Possibly Francisca was widowed early in this peculiar marriage.  I hope (for reasons seen later) that her baby Michael L. survived.

LDS microfilm # 785,799.  The 1870 birth of Michael Lihrewbek.  Katholishe Kirche Dirschau.  Parentis Francisca Tybus and Johann Lihrewbek.  Johann is listed as "Arb" which is an abbreviation for arbietor, which means non-agricultural worker.

Strings.  On November 14, 1871, a child named Marianna was born to Ana Ponczek (sp. ?) and Peter Woelke, in Lunas, a village close to Dirschau. A sister of Augusta?  (LDS microfilm # 585,7

Maria Tybus married 1872, Dirschau, West Prussia

Maria, the oldest of the Tybus children, marries Leonhard Koncszing (sp. ?) on December 17, 1872.  (LDS microfilm #0585800.)  The record lists their ages as 27, Leonhard, and 28, Maria.  Maria actually has just turned 29.  Their witnesses were _______ and Maria's brother August Tybus, who is now 25.

They probably will have a large family.  Noted in the christening records was a child born in 1881 and another named Alois Johannes in 1884, and I was not even looking for their children.

Michael Tybus, Active Military 1872 - 1875 (?)

Michael Tybus is in the Prussian military.  If he was an ordinary conscript, his active service probably started at age 18 and ended at age 21.  His reserve status would have then ended in 1877.  The place and exact year of this photograph are not known.  Below is a photograph of Michael Tybus in military uniform.

Right.  Photograph of Michael Tybus and photograph/drawing composite .  Original belongs to Gertrude's family.

An odd composite, photograph and drawing.  A military uniform.  What does it mean?

It meant something to the person who made it, and to the person (presumably Antonia) who initially kept it.  It was ultimately kept by Gertrude, and possibly was among her mother's (Antonia's) keepsakes.

It was rumored to indicate that Michael Norek held a special high position in the Prussian military.  That is/was a family legend.

Right and wrong.  The person in the photo is not Michael Norek, but instead it is a young Michael Tybus.  Not Aunt Gert's father but her maternal grandfather whom she never met.  (The significance of this composite remains unknown.)

Integration of German and Prussian Military, 1867  In 1867 the armies of all German states, except three, are integrated with the Prussian army.  The three non-aligned German states are Bayern (Bavaria), Sachsen and Wuttemburg.

Prussian military records, including historic Prussian records and those of all but three German states after 1867, were almost completely destroyed in 1945.

Strings.  On June 25, 1876, a Johann Ponzek, 25, marries Jorgabina Burhewitle (sp. ?), 25.  A brother of Augusta?  (LDS microfilm #0585800.)
