Ancestry Chapter 14 1892-1894 - Norek and Tybus Children, More Births, One Death
This date is again a guess, based on a 1904 family photograph and prevailing trend of two years between children. She is Antonia's younger sister whose name we know from a later photograph. Alfons is 6 and Antonia is 4. (Twins lost in 1885 and another baby lost in 1890.)
Twins John and Mary Norek, born 1893, Chicago, Illinois The twins Johann Franz (John) and Maria Anna (Mary) were born on September 4, 1893 and christened on September 17th. They are Michael and Helena's third and fourth children. Their sister Lucy is five and Cecelia is three. Mary's story is told later. The family tree compiled by JoAnn _________ lists John as the twin to Mary Norek, born in 1892. When I first discovered that Mary was born September 1993, from her death certificate, I asked when was John born? My guess was that he was not Mary's twin, that he was born and died in 1892, and that Helena was pregnant with John on the boat. Then I found their births as twins from St. Paul’s records -- my guesses were wrong. The September 11, 1893 christening records for the Norek twins, Johann Franz, christened Joannes Franciscus (Latin) and Mary, christened Maria Anna. St. Paul’s Catholic church, Chicago. Parents Michael Norek and Helena Tibus. Residence at 1093 Hoyne Avenue. John’s godparents are Johann and Margaretha Heider. Mary’s godparents are Johann and Anna Boehmlein. John and Mary are the first children in the Norek family born in the U.S. Poppa Norek is 29 and Helena is 36. They have been in the U.S. about 1 1/2 years now. We have photographs, but we don't know has first name. Younger brother of Alfons, Antonia and Anna. He will be the youngest surviving child of Michael and Augusta Tibus. He becomes a good looking, cheerful young man. (His d.o.b. again a guess.) Johann Franz (John) Norek dies on September 20, 1894 at the age of 1 year and 10 days. He is buried at St. Boniface cemetery on September 23rd. Record of the death and burial of Johann Franz Norek, September 1894. St. Paul’s Catholic church. Chicago, Illinois. Michael and Helena’s third child, and the first child lost. The church record clearly indicates that baby Johann Franz Norek was buried at St. Boniface. He is not listed on the Norek tombstone. Presume he was buried before the family plot was purchased.
