Ancestry Chapter 20 1904 - Tybus Family Photograph, Dirschau
Tibus Family Photograph, 1904, Dirschau, West Prussia Left and in Photo Gallery. Tibus family studio photograph. Studio address 1 Berlinstrasse, Dirschau. Right to left. Standing -- sister Anna, father Michael, and Alfons. Seated -- mother Augusta (possibly - see below), younger brother whose name is not known, and Antonia. The reason for "possibly" by Augusta's name is that I have learned from one of Alfons children that Alfons (and therefore Antonia) had a step-mother. When Augusta died, and when Michael Tybus remarried is not known. Known is that the step-mother survived into the late 1940s at least. Apparently Michael Tybus did not. This information was provided from one of Alfons children who recalled Alfons talking about his trips home. So the person in the photograph could be Augusta or the step-mother. Even younger sister Anna and brother (name unknown) could be children of the second marriage. Records for their births, like the record for Cecelia's birth, in Dirschau were not located and possibly were lost. I am presuming it is Augusta in the photograph. One not-conclusive indication is the 1913 photograph of the Tybus family. That photograph, which may show a family dinner for Antonia's 25th birthday, includes her cousin Valerian Ponczek. Valerian is Augusta's nephew, and his presence suggests Augusta is still with the family. This treasure of a family photograph was probably brought to the U.S. not only by Antonia, but also by Alfons. If any copies exist in Eastern Europe, it is a link to the family who stayed. The studio, The Lange, is located at 16/17 Berlinerstrasse. (-str. means strasse.) Berliner Street. Berlin was the capital of Prussia then. Berlinerstrasse in Dirschau is certainly a main street, and probably still exists under a different name in the Old Town harbor area. The name "Lange" is a surname seen in the Dirschau Catholic church christening records.
