Ancestry Chapter 26

1908 - First Second-Batch Birth
(click photos/documents to see details)

Michael S. Norek born October 14, 1908, Chicago, Illinois

Michael Norek Jr., christened Michael Stephan Leo Norek, is born on October 14, 1908, the first of nine children of Michael and Antonia Norek, residing at 43 23rd Place.

The first of the second-batchers.

Baby Michael is born on his sister Lucy's 20th birthday.  Lucy and Michael Jr. are the only Norek offspring christened with three names.  Michael Jr.’s godparents were Lucy's fiancé Leo and Cecilia Prihocki (sp ?).

He is born into a family with five surviving first-batch children, from Lucy down to Anna age 9.  They are half-siblings and more, because these older children also his mother's cousins.  When he spoke of these early times he calls them his "my brothers" or "my sisters."  There is no indication of any hostilities between first and second batchers during the growing-up years.

He is the first son to be named Michael.  Is he named after his father, Michael Norek, or after his maternal grandfather, Michael Tibus?  Or both?  His other two namesakes are obviously his older brother Steve (also christened Stephan) and his sister Lucy’s fiancé Leo.

Record of the christening of Michael Stephan Leo Norek will not be shown.
