Ancestry Chapter 30

1910-1912 – One More Norek Child and Two Grandchildren

First grandchild born 1910, Chicago

Betty, Michael Norek's first grandchild, is born to Lucy and Leo.

Josephine Norek born 1911, Chicago

Josephine Norek was born on May 20, 1911, to Michael and Antonia Norek.  Their second child.  Named after Michael Norek's mother Josephina.

Josephine is christened on May 29th at St. Paul’s, and her godparents were Alfons (Alphonse) Tibus and Ida Lanser.  Not since 1890 has an aunt or uncle been godparent to a Norek offspring – because none were over here in the U.S. until Alfons arrived.

St. Paul’s records of Josephina Norek.

Parents Michael Norek and Antonia Tibus of 2133 23 Pl.  Godparents Alphnse Tibus and Ida Lanser.

Josephine will grow up to be a good looking young lady with a calm approach to most any problem.  Was she born into a storm-a-brewing?

Photograph of Michael Norek.  Marked "Camp Lake Wisconsin 1911" but might read 1917.

Christmas 1911

The photograph, with Michael Jr. on a hobby horse, and baby Josephine on the floor in front of the Christmas tree, was taken Christmas of 1911.  Note that the candles on that tree are real.

A reproduction of this photo, enlarged and cropped, will be taped on the wall for Michael Jr.'s 75th birthday party in Chicago.

Photos of the first two second batch Norek's.  First Michael Jr. with his baby sister Josephine, and then Michael Jr. posed by himself on a large chair.

I suspect that Cecelia is already dating Matt, and that these photos are some of his work.  Photos are from late 1911 or early 1912.

Second Grandchild born, 1912

Lucy and Leo’s second child, Leo Jr., is born in 1912.  Michael Norek is a grandfather for the second time.

On April 14, 1912 the Titanic struck an iceberg off Newfoundland on its maiden voyage to New York.  The Titanic sunk early the next morning with the loss of 1,500 lives.
